I AM MUSLIM AND I AM PROUD!!
Delivered by Sh. Navaid Aziz, Twins of Faith: 24 December 2011
Requoted~
Assalamu’alaikum w.r.t dear sisters and brothers!! Kaifa halukum? J hmm? Alhamdulillah..
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim..
Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Lailahaillallah, Allahu Akbar!
All praises to Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.. He is the One who gives the golden opportunity and golden hour for us, to be there with all the OH SO AWESOME Muslims (OHSEM) from all over the world, that with a broaden heart came to Malaysia to give us such a MARVELES talk! Masya-Allah!
And now, it is our responsibility to spread all the OHSEM! knowledge that we had got from all the talks, InsyaAllah.. Enjoy! ~ok, sambil baca tu cuba bayangkan Sh. Navaid tu ada di depan mata berbicara dengan penuh semangat! Woooaaa!~
He begin the talk with a MAGNIFICIENT story of one of our Prophet Muhammad’s companion. Who else could it be? He is the Amirul Mukminin, Umar al-Khattab r.a! The story goes like this..
‘Caliph Umar al-Khattab is the one who opened up BaitulMaqdis after much time’
While Caliph Umar al-Khattab was on his way to Jerusalem, Abu ‘Ubaidah Ibn Jarrah looked at him and said, “ Ya Amirul Muknimin, I have met the rulers of Persia and Rom (and much more) with the magnificient clothings, and then I look at you, (imagine the humble clothings with several patches on it). Ya Amirul Aminin, you are more deserves to have those magnificent lifestyle!”
Umar al-Khattab said to him, “Ya Abu ‘Ubaidah, if anyone said to me other than you, I would have chop off his head!” ~he is showing who the real boss ha.. J~
And based on that story our discussion will begin.. It is about ‘Izzah! Do dear sisters and brothers know about ‘Izzah? Oh, no. Not a person named ‘Izzah.. hehe. Here is the hadith;
“We are a nation, whom Allah honoured through Islam, and in it (Islam) we seek honour, dignity and respect,
and if we seek it in something else, Allah will dishonour us”
Reference: Mustadrak al-Haakim (Hadith # 207, 208), Ad-Dahabi has agreed with hakim that it is according to the
conditions of the two Shaikhs, also quoted by ibn Kathir in Al-bidayah Wan-Nihayah (Vol 7/70).
Can you see? In Islam there are some secret ingredients that can make us proud of becoming an OHSEM Muslim! But the problem is now, we are searching other elements other than Islam.. How sad it is..huhu ;( . But whatever it is, lets snap out of it, and lets discover the secrets of how to become a Proud Muslim.. err, I mean proud to be a Muslim.. :) (well, this secret can be told to anyone..hee)
First of all, let us recall back! What is the first and the second revelation (wahyu) that change the messenger of Allah s.a.w, with it Allah instill confidence and power inside our Prophet Muhammad’s heart to actually become a prophet.
What is the first revelation of people? “Iqra’!” Read! Educate yourselves.
And the second revelation was ‘Stand Up! And call the people.’
The correlation between the two is that we need to learn and increase our knowledge and then, educate and influences other people. Then, after that, build up our relationship with Allah s.w.t. That what our ummah should do!
What are the action of ‘Izzah (proud of becoming a Muslim)?
> Allah s.w.t said in the Quran, ‘If you desire ‘Izzah, you should worship Allah alone!’
> Increasing ourselves with knowledge. There are 2 categories:
o Knowledge about our deen itself.
o Knowledge about the great people that have left their legacy in Islam.
- Abdullah Ibn Huzaifah (Perseverance)
- Al-Barok Ibn Abdul Malik Al-Anshori (Courage)
- Umar Abdul Aziz
- Umar Ibn Al-Khattab
What are the principles and themes that lies in our religion?
1) We only believes in 1 religion and we only worship Allah s.w.t alone!
2) LOVE – Love to the Creator and love the people. There is one hadith saying that,
“You will not enter Paradise until you have faith and you will not have faith until you love one another. Do you want me to tell you something you can do to make you love one another? Make it a habit to greet one another with “Assalaamu Alaykum” – peace upon you”. (Muslim)
3) MERCY and COMPASSION – Another important hadith:
“The merciful are shown mercy by the Merciful. Be merciful to those on earth, and He who is in heaven will be merciful to you. Kinship ties are connecting branches from the Merciful. Whoever maintains them will be maintained by God, and whoever cuts them will be cut off by God.”
~ Sunan al-Tirmidhi no. 2049, Kitab al-Birr wa’l-Silah
And the great example for us to ponder is the story of Nabi Yusuf a.s. Even though his brothers have done a lot of bad things to him including putting him alone in a well, Nabi Yusuf a.s still gave his forgiveness to his brothers. Subhanallah! And this was repeated by our Prophet Muhammad s.a.w during the opening of Mecca. Subhanallah! See how our Prophet deal with the people that have done wrong to him. He never want to do revenge on them but instead he forgives all of them. Then, you can see the impact of his forgiveness by the reverting to Islam by the people of Mecca. MasyaAllah. This shows the power of behavior, this shows the power of dignity. How about us, dear sisters and brothers? Let us build up our akhlaq! InsyaAllah. The first step is by seeing/looking at other people with mercy and compassion, and not with anger. :)
4) JUSTICE – Be just! It is the closest thing to Taqwa.
Some home message to take:
- Changing the world by changing ourselves first!
- Who will start it first? No other but you!
- Be ihsan and have the ultimate relationship with Allah
-Where does Rasulullah s.a.w got his strength? By praying to Allah in the middle of the night.
Subhanallah! That is all that I have got from the talk. May not be that perfect, but I hope I have delivered the knowledge that I know. Bi iznillah~ jazakillahu khoiron kathiro everyone! Wassalamu’alaikum w.r.t J
(Yang baik itu datangnya daripada Allah s.w.t dan yang buruk itu atas kesalahan dan kekhilafan saya sendiri. Mohon maaf segalanya!)
